Go Pink Wednesday...on Tuesday!

Finger Painting Fingers is hosting a lovely event for the month of October to help raise breast cancer awareness:
Every Wednesday in October, share a pink manicure to show your support!

I did mine early...sorry, I couldn't wait!

Yes, my poor middle finger chipped right before I took my pics!  Grrrr!  So I trimmed it up:

Very sad about the chip! :-(
This is Zoya "Shelby" topped with a special OPI pink shatter I picked up last year for Breast Cancer Awareness at a Regis salon called "Regis Pink Shatter".  I used a glitter striper for accent, and did my ribbon w/another pink striper.  Very PINK!!

My mom is a 14-year survivor, and I've supported her by attending lots of Breast Cancer walks.  If you've never been, you MUST go to one this month!  It's so overwhelming to be a part of all of those people touched by breast cancer.  I've been so sad to see a little boy on the shoulders of his dad wearing a bib saying "Walking in Memory of My Mommy", or the family with the picket signs bearing the pictures of a beautiful young high school senior at her prom, and then in her hospital bed where she lost her fight.  In the next second, I've been elated to see the sea of the special hats the survivors get to wear, and to see the brave bald women who are still going through chemo and who are so moved by the support and comfort everyone there gives them.  Truly an amazing experience!!

If anything, I hope you get your yearly check by your doctor, and yes, even your mammogram if you're old enough.  Because of my mom's history, I've had to get them since I was 30 years old, but I go every year ;-)

These are the other lovely peeps joining me in my support for BCA by participating in "Go Pink Wednesday":

Playing Catch-Up!

I feel so badly for neglecting my poor little blog!  But I have been very busy painting my nails, and spending waaay too much money on new nail polish that I can't fit into my current storage situation...guess it's time for a new storage situation ;-).

Anyways, here's a quick look at what I've been up to since my last post...

I entered this mani into the "Wedding Belles" contest hosted by Dazzle Dry Quick Dry Polish.  I used China Glaze "Dress Me Up", then stamped and painted pointed french tips with CG "White on White", then hand-painted roses with CG "Fifth Avenue" & Pure Ice "Love".  This is the first time I actually did a mani with a particular contest in mind.  I think they came out mah-velous, but the other entries are pretty awesome, so we'll see how I do...

Anyway, those didn't last long, cuz I wanted to use some of my newest Darling Diva Polish "Sugar and Spice".

This is the Pure Ice "Love" with a Pure Ice purple shatter (sorry, I'm too lazy to look it up right now), and of course the others are covered with Sugar & Spice.  I LOVE the butterflies in this polish!! And they were actually pretty easy to get on to my nail...I only had to go fishing for 2 nails.  2 nails even had multiple butterflies.  Anyway, this was a SUPER-girly mani, which, I guess, is appropriate for this polish :-)  BTW, I love her little saying on the bottle: "The Happiest Girls are the Prettiest Girls. Be Happy!"  AMEN, Sista!!

My current mani is going to be removed as soon as I finish this post.  I painted Cult Nails "Iconic", and then topped it with Essie "Shine of the Times" flakies top coat.  Then, I took off to the Colorado River for a weekend of fun.
It was pretty in the sun, and reminded me of red dragon scales.  But, the River is not the place for a nice manicure, and this is how my nails look now:
Yup, I ripped my thumbnail off, and my ring finger is chipped.  And this is my "photo" hand!  And I was planning on entering a "Star Spangled" contest.  Grrrr.  Anyway, I've cut them all down, although not as short as that thumbnail.  Short nails make me want to do dark mani's >:-)

I've also hit Sally's, some blog sales, and Zoya's website lately, so now I have Orly's "Dark Shadows" collection, some more China Glaze "Hunger Games", 9 more Zoya's, another Lacquistry (woot-woot), and some other Indie's.  I also discovered Utopia's Polish on etsy, and she is my newest favorite indie!  Her glitters remind me of Lacquistry, so there you go! ;-)

OK, that catches you all up.  I'm not sure what I'm doing for my next mani, yet....

Vinyl Remix - Test Drive

So I was scouting around Wal-Mart's polish section (imagine that!), and I snagged my 2 NYC "Grand Central Station" clear top coats that another blogger (sorry, can't remember who) said is better than Seche Vite!  Anywhoo, I was looking through the Maybeline section and saw a bunch of these Pure Ice sets (go figure):
I had never heard of these before, and I was intrigued!  All of the shrink-wrapped sets were black and white, but with different colored labels on the black.  So, what is "Art In Motion"?  Doesn't say, but the word "MAGIC" is all over, an I'm a sucker for magic, especially if it's in a bottle of polish!
Here's what the back says.  Hmmm, still not exactly sure what it does.  But the design on the little record (which is also a nail file), is a hint!

So, I rushed home, removed my Zoya mani (which came off very easily and cleanly...add me to the "I love Zoya" band-wagon), And put on the white base coat:
This is two coats.  Went on just fine.  I let this dry, then busted out the black polish.  The "tips" under the label say to brush "a wave, half moon, heart, diagonal stripe, or straight" lines.  So, I did.
And it WAS magic!!  Look, it made pink, and black crackle over that!  Very fun fun fun!  And it crackled pretty well!

I guess Pure Ice wants you to buy other colors, and then fill in the white areas with those for a complete design.  So, my final verdict is that it was really fun to watch the design appear, but I would rather just use my own pretty polishes under my own black crackle.  Each set is like $7.00, and it was thoroughly entertaining!

Will you be trying these out?

Plasma Plays in 21 Ways: "4. Execute a Half-Moon Mani"

I am totally diggin;' the light spring pastel colors that are out right now!  I didn't think they would look good on my darker skin, but I found some I really like.  So I figured it was time for #4 in Plasma Speedo's 21 Ways to Play, Execute a Half-Moon Mani:
I should have cleaned up the cuticles before the pic, but I wanted to take it in this last little bit of sunlight so I could capture the sparkly top coats of China Glaze's "Fairy Dust" and Sally Hansen's "Disco Ball".  I must admit, I'm not a fan of this style of mani, which is why I decided to really try to go different with the shatter layer.  Meh.  I actually liked it better before the half-moon:

Well, this one will be on today & tomorrow, and then I'm moving on to #5 Go Dark.  Oh yeah!  Speaking of dark, my toes got a couple of new coats today too:
The base is a no-name black shimmer polish from Forever 21.  It was actually nice and thick, and was opaque in 2 coats with lots of silvery shimmer.  Not too bad for $1.  The crazy glitter on top is "Endangered Blue Loon" from Windestein.  This Etsy shop is really cool, and their prices are amazing.  "Blue Loon" is $5 for a full bottle, and I picked up "Into the Wild" and "80's Deco" for $6 each.  And shipping was super-fast.  Click that link!

Have a Happy Easter!
