Nail-aween Challenge Day 7: "Spider Nails"

I'm getting behind on my challenge, but I have just enough time to catch up! :-)

Here are my Spider Nails!  Some of the little guys have some, er, issues, but they're still fun:

The orange is Sinful Colors "Courtney Orange", and it is a lovely shimmery orange with a great formula.  I stamped the webs with Pure Ice "Silver Mercedes", and the spiders with Klean Color "Black".  I tried to clean up some of the spiders's legs with black polish and a toothpick, but sometimes less is more ;-).

Here are the other participants in the challenge:

"Go Pink Wednesday #4"

It's time for another "Go Pink Wednesday" manicure for Breast Cancer Awareness, so I sat down in front of my polish hoard collection to deliberate my next design.  While contemplating my choices, I noticed I was actually wearing pink sweatpants & a grey thermal top at the time, and inspiration hit!  I also rummaged through my nail art box, and found some cool stuff to jazz up the idea I had in my head.

Behold this week's creation:

This is Pure Ice "Love" and "Silver Mercedes".  This brand is $1.99 at Walmart, and I cannot say enough good things about it!  "Silver Mercedes" is amazing for stamping too!  This is 2 coats of each color.
For a change, I used some light pink half-beads for the ribbon this week.

Check out the other lovely BCA manicures created by my fellow participants:

"Band Geek" - Reppin' It!!

I am proud to say I was a Band Nerd in high school 20 years ago.  I played all 4 years, and I was in field marching AND parade band, with concert season thrown in for good measure.  All band, all the time.

My Freshman & Sophomore years I played clarinet & bass clarinet.  But then I realized that, no matter how hard you wail on that woodwind out on the field during a half-time show, you still can't hear it.  So for my Junior & Senior years, I switched to brass instruments:  baritone and euphonium, baby!!

I was part of the Blue Star Regiment, and my biggest claim to fame during that time was that we performed in the Fiesta Bowl, and I was on TV during the parade, since I was on the end of the row. :-)  I LOVED being in the band, and I made some very good friends during that time, and I was very proud of what we did.  We worked hard and tirelessly, were in Open Class and kicked ass, and we build a camaraderie that I have not experienced since.  I was a Band Geek, and I'm super-proud!!

So, for today's mani which is for Jilltastic Design's "Try It On Tuesday" and for the letter "B" in Lustrous Lacquer's Alphabet Challenge, I chose KB Shimmer's "Band Geek".  This is a beautiful black polish with the gold, silver and brass of the shiny band instruments thrown in.  How perfect is that?

This polish is absolutely gorgeous!!  And my treble clef from a Shany plate over Pure Ice "Jaguar" is the perfect accent, although I couldn't believe that out of my 5 sets of stamping plates, not a single one had music notes!

I must admit, "Band Geed" is now one of my favorite polishes!  Visit KB Shimmer's website HERE and her Etsy shop HERE...you won't be sorry, but your wallet might be! ;-)

Playing Catch-Up!

I feel so badly for neglecting my poor little blog!  But I have been very busy painting my nails, and spending waaay too much money on new nail polish that I can't fit into my current storage situation...guess it's time for a new storage situation ;-).

Anyways, here's a quick look at what I've been up to since my last post...

I entered this mani into the "Wedding Belles" contest hosted by Dazzle Dry Quick Dry Polish.  I used China Glaze "Dress Me Up", then stamped and painted pointed french tips with CG "White on White", then hand-painted roses with CG "Fifth Avenue" & Pure Ice "Love".  This is the first time I actually did a mani with a particular contest in mind.  I think they came out mah-velous, but the other entries are pretty awesome, so we'll see how I do...

Anyway, those didn't last long, cuz I wanted to use some of my newest Darling Diva Polish "Sugar and Spice".

This is the Pure Ice "Love" with a Pure Ice purple shatter (sorry, I'm too lazy to look it up right now), and of course the others are covered with Sugar & Spice.  I LOVE the butterflies in this polish!! And they were actually pretty easy to get on to my nail...I only had to go fishing for 2 nails.  2 nails even had multiple butterflies.  Anyway, this was a SUPER-girly mani, which, I guess, is appropriate for this polish :-)  BTW, I love her little saying on the bottle: "The Happiest Girls are the Prettiest Girls. Be Happy!"  AMEN, Sista!!

My current mani is going to be removed as soon as I finish this post.  I painted Cult Nails "Iconic", and then topped it with Essie "Shine of the Times" flakies top coat.  Then, I took off to the Colorado River for a weekend of fun.
It was pretty in the sun, and reminded me of red dragon scales.  But, the River is not the place for a nice manicure, and this is how my nails look now:
Yup, I ripped my thumbnail off, and my ring finger is chipped.  And this is my "photo" hand!  And I was planning on entering a "Star Spangled" contest.  Grrrr.  Anyway, I've cut them all down, although not as short as that thumbnail.  Short nails make me want to do dark mani's >:-)

I've also hit Sally's, some blog sales, and Zoya's website lately, so now I have Orly's "Dark Shadows" collection, some more China Glaze "Hunger Games", 9 more Zoya's, another Lacquistry (woot-woot), and some other Indie's.  I also discovered Utopia's Polish on etsy, and she is my newest favorite indie!  Her glitters remind me of Lacquistry, so there you go! ;-)

OK, that catches you all up.  I'm not sure what I'm doing for my next mani, yet....

More Zoya! "Lotus"

The last 2 mani's for Plasma Plays in 21 Ways involve yellow.  I don't like yellow on my nails.  But I do have a pastel yellow that might be ok, but I've recently gotten tanned from golfing (I don't wear gloves), and pastel yellow on super-dark skin is no bueno in my humble opinion...

So, I'm skipping them for now, and playing with my gorgeous Zoya polish instead!  Here is "Lotus"
It is such a beautifully perfect shade of lilac purple!  And, just when it seems fantastic, it gets even better with it's faint pink shimmer.  Fantabulous!!

So after wearing this gorgous color for a couple of days, I decided to spruce it up a bit.  I wanted more practice with my stamping plates, so...
This is Pure Ice "New Lilac" stamped with Konad 57.  I still need to get better with placing the stamps, but this was a fun little accent, and I like how it came out really subtle.

Gonna have to cut the nails down when this mani comes off...it's getting kind of dodgey to type :-)

Vinyl Remix - Test Drive

So I was scouting around Wal-Mart's polish section (imagine that!), and I snagged my 2 NYC "Grand Central Station" clear top coats that another blogger (sorry, can't remember who) said is better than Seche Vite!  Anywhoo, I was looking through the Maybeline section and saw a bunch of these Pure Ice sets (go figure):
I had never heard of these before, and I was intrigued!  All of the shrink-wrapped sets were black and white, but with different colored labels on the black.  So, what is "Art In Motion"?  Doesn't say, but the word "MAGIC" is all over, an I'm a sucker for magic, especially if it's in a bottle of polish!
Here's what the back says.  Hmmm, still not exactly sure what it does.  But the design on the little record (which is also a nail file), is a hint!

So, I rushed home, removed my Zoya mani (which came off very easily and cleanly...add me to the "I love Zoya" band-wagon), And put on the white base coat:
This is two coats.  Went on just fine.  I let this dry, then busted out the black polish.  The "tips" under the label say to brush "a wave, half moon, heart, diagonal stripe, or straight" lines.  So, I did.
And it WAS magic!!  Look, it made pink, and black crackle over that!  Very fun fun fun!  And it crackled pretty well!

I guess Pure Ice wants you to buy other colors, and then fill in the white areas with those for a complete design.  So, my final verdict is that it was really fun to watch the design appear, but I would rather just use my own pretty polishes under my own black crackle.  Each set is like $7.00, and it was thoroughly entertaining!

Will you be trying these out?
